TIGER, TIGER I went to the Youth Alpha launch a couple of weeks ago (which served really tasty Chinese food), and the Bear Grylls launch event for the main Alpha Course, a few weeks before that. But the one event that’s really stood out for me is the Student Alpha launch, which was held last week at Tiger, Tiger. One of London’s trendiest venue's was heaving with students. There was live music, good food, heart-felt testimonies and a great introductory talk asking, “Is there more to life than this?” I also happened to bump into an old friend, Naomi Hill, who I hadn’t seen in over 7 years. She was one of my youth leaders at an annual conference which is now part of New Wine. It's a small world. The speaker for the evening, Jamie Haith, is also my mentor for the duration of my internship at HTB. As an ongoing project, I'll be reading through and leaving comments on a bundle of transcripts that are hopefully the next generation of Alpha talks. I also have to research and weigh up factors like cost and life-span against producing student orientated DVD's in the style of Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth. The second half of my project involves researching the concept of de-centralised leadership. As Alpha has spread all over the world, there is a need to provide some sort of platform where different regions can upload contexually specific resources. It's really interesting stuff, and I'm enjoying all the reading that comes with it. I just wish I had more time. |
